2007 SHIP’S REUNION
“REPORT”
USS TRUMPETFISH SS425 SHIPMATES, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS,
It is my pleasure to once again report about our 2007 Ship’s Reunion
held in Kingsland, Georgia (near Kings Bay Submarine Base). I am
extremely pleased to announce that we once again increased attendance
over past reunions with 123 present. Originally, we had 129 registered,
but six had to cancel due to health issues.
We arrived at the Hawthorn Suites Hotel on Monday Oct 29 to begin
setting-up our Hospitality Room. The Hawthorn had just opened the
previous Thursday, and the majority of us were the first ones to be in
the suites. This hotel was just beautiful, and treated us as if we
were special guests. I doubt that we will ever get this nice a
facility at such a low price, but we’ll do our best.
As I said we arrived on Monday, and there were also about a dozen early
birds there to help us unload my truck, and Jim Brincefield’s van. It
didn’t take too long to get the Hospitality Room set-up and start
putting out the Ship’s Store items, Door Prizes, Memorabilia Table, and
snacks & beverages. That evening we all went to a seafood restaurant
for fellowship and laughter.
On Tuesday Oct 30, the masses started arriving, and the fun began. It
was just such a thrill to once again welcome so many of our shipmates,
and their spouses, and other family members. Most everyone got to the
Submarine Museum to pick up their GA SubVet welcome packages, and visit
the museum in St Marys. Now we had a large group, and we all went to
another seafood restaurant for some great seafood, and of course more
very nice fellowship.
Wednesday Oct 31, 62 of us left the hotel at 0930 on a bus and one
van
driven by Warner Baxter, and headed to Jacksonville for the nice cruise
and luncheon on the St Johns River through downtown Jacksonville. The
weather was beautiful, sunny and a little windy, but it was very
pleasant to be topside to chat and enjoy the views of Jacksonville.
The lunch was excellent, and it seemed the chatter in the dining room
was continuous and a whole lot of laughter going on. I could tell
everyone was really enjoying this special time with there “old”
shipmates.
At 1600 we had a Public Safety and Crime Prevention Seminar presented
by Georgia Crime Prevention Task Force. This was a very informative
seminar, about things we should be aware of to protect ourselves from
the criminal element that lurks around us.
Wednesday evening the Hawthorn Hotel served us a complimentary chicken
dinner in which approximately 100 of our people thoroughly enjoyed.
After which we retired to the Hospitality Room for more fellowship, fun,
and laughter.
Thursday Nov 1 was a day in which everyone could spend on the Sub Base,
Submarine Museum, shop, or travel around to get familiar with the area. Many of us either got the Trident Submarine tours in the morning or afternoon aboard the USS TENNESSEE SSBN 734. The boat was preparing to go on sea trials after several months of intensive repair activities. I heard a lot of good comments about the boat, and how friendly everyone aboard was to us old timers. It is obvious that the Navy Submarine Force is still just as dedicated to their mission as we were, however, I believe the intelligence level of these kids are well above us. Of course I’m not speaking of you, but rather it is more directed at me.
Thursday evening we all went to the Official Welcome by the Kings Bay
Base Commander at the GA SubVet’s Headquarters the Cumberland Inn Hotel.
We enjoyed a dinner presented by the GA SubVets. We then returned to
our Hospitality Room for more fun. I might add here that nearly all of
our Reunion Attendees were now here for the rest of the reunion.
Friday Nov 2 we departed the hotel to drive to the Kings Bay Base for
the WWII Submarine Memorial Service, which was really the highlight of
the GA SubVet week. I believe there was a near record crowd there with
somewhere around 600 people. The Trumpetfish overwhelmed everyone
there, by our large numbers present in that crowd. One man I met
before the ceremony started said, “My God where did all these
Trumpetfish people come from. I’ve never seen so many Trumpetfish
sailors assembled at one time. They are coming out of the woodwork”.
Of course I just smiled and thanked him for noticing us. There were
many such comments made to many of our contingent. Everyone knew that
the USS TRUMPETFISH SS425 Crew was in town.
This memorial service honors all WWII Submarine Veterans, and pays
tribute to those 52 boats that were lost during the war, and the
nearly 3600 submariners that went down with their boats and are on
eternal patrol. This service is very special to everyone that attends it, and as I said in earlier messages, there won’t be a dry eye in the house. I have a strong feeling that many of our Reunion Attendees will return again the first week of November in future years to attend this special week of honoring our WWII shipmates and those 52 boats and their crews for their supreme sacrifice. This was Lucy and my fifth straight year to attend this special week, and we will continue to return each year as long as we are able. If you didn’t attend our reunion this year, but would like more information about this annual event, let me know and I’ll send you information about registering for it.
After this Memorial Service, everyone went next door to the FBM
Training Center for refreshments, and to take tours of this fine
facility. Several more went on tour of the USS FLORIDA SSGN (I don’t
know it’s hull number), and the reports that I heard from this group
was that they also enjoyed this boat much very much. These boat tours
are also given every year during this WWII Submarine Memorial Week.
Friday evening most of us went back to the base for the GA SubVets
Dinner Banquet, and enjoyed the meal and each other’s company very much.
Saturday arrived and this had to be our busiest day of the reunion. We
started the morning at 0830 with our business meeting. The agenda was
full, and we had a lot to discuss as follows:
1. Meeting called to Order by the Acting President
2. Pledge to the American Flag—Acting 1st VP
3. Invocation-Chaplain
4. Eternal Patrol List—Secretary
5. Introductions—Four Plankowners: Frank Mattocks, Chuck Bruit,
Al Anceravage, and John Perkins. What a thrill to have
these special shipmates with us.
Also from the 40’s, Bob Miller, Bill Schmauss, and John Hill.
I’m sure Bob and John served during WWII, but not on T-Fish.
I’m not sure if Bill served during WWII.
6. The Financial Report was given by the Treasurer. His books
were audited by the Board of Officers, and found to be
complete.
7. New Business
a. Election of Officers for the period of the remainder of
2007, 2008, and to the date for the next business
meeting at the 2009 Reunion.
(1) President- Bob Doris
(2) 1st Vice President- Jim Butler
(3) 2nd Vice President- Jerry Rosenberg
(4) Secretary & Treasurer- Terry Trump
(5) Member at Large- Jim Loveday
b. Volunteer Appointments
(1) Chaplain- Tommy Martin
(2) Storekeeper- Terry Trump
(3) Reunion Coordinator- Terry Trump
(4) Reunion Planning Committee
(a) Bob Doris
(b) Jim & Charlotte Loveday
(c) Jim & Fay Brincefield
(d) Linn & Maggie Rogers
(e) Terry & Lucy Trump
(f) Jerry & Christine Rosenberg
c. By-Laws Amendments---The Trumpetfish Veterans
Association By-laws may be read on our Website at:
uss-trumpetfish-ss425.org
I will show the approved changes to the amendments in
RED throughout the By-Laws. I won’t go through them
here.
d. Selection for the 2009 Reunion site---We had discussion
again about whether to have our reunions annually or
biennially (every two years). The suggestion arose to
continue to have the Official Reunion Biennially in the
odd years, but have such things as cruises, land tours,
train tours, RV Caravans, etc during the opposite years
(even years) for those that wish to participate in
those as well as the reunions. Based upon that I will
begin pursuing a cruise for next year (2008), and also
start planning for the 2009 Ship’s Reunion. THE
MAJORITY VOTED TO HAVE OUR 2009 REUNION IN ANNAPOLIS,
MD. Therefore, we will expect a much larger
crowd in 2009 than we had this year. My goal is to
continue to increase attendance at each reunion. I had
a goal of 150 at this one, we had 123, so I’ll set my
goal for 09 at 150, and I sure hope we can even beat
that. WILL SEE YOU ALL THERE!!
8. GOOD OF THE ORDER
a. Lifetime Members—We presented our 79th Lifetime Member
Linn Rogers with his Glass Crystal Award.
b. Recognition of the 2007 Reunion Planning Committee—We
showed our appreciation for all the hard work that the
07 Reunion Planning Committee performed to make this
reunion so successful. They did an outstanding job,
and were a super group to work with. They are:
(1) Jim and Fay Brincefield
(2) Bill and Marilyn Grafton
(3) Linn and Maggie Rogers
(4) Jim and Charlotte Loveday
(5) Terry and Lucy Trump
(6) It was too far for Joe and Pat Overton to travel
for the Planning Meetings, they pitched in at
this reunion.
9. Other Recognitions
a. Ron Melton for his rendering of the Association Logo,
and the many other graphics that he does for us.
b. Bob Dorris for getting the window decals of our ship’s
patch made up and paid for at his expense.
c. Those Planning Members that hauled four vehicle loads
of Reunion Materials down to Kingsland.
d. All those that helped us set-up the Hospitality Room,
Dining Room, manned the Ship’s Store during the Reunion,
and helped clean up the Banquet Room, Hospitality Room,
and helped pack all the materials that had to be
brought back home.
This meeting was lengthy, but we accomplished a lot, and all those
items above were performed in a very business like and harmonious
atmosphere.
After the Business Meeting ended, the last group went to the bus
pick-up point to go on their Submarine Tour of the USS Tennessee.
At 1500 the professional photographer began taking individual and
couples pictures, and finished with all the men in one group, and all
the ladies in the other group picture. He is going to send me a CD to
insert the names to the individual and couple pictures, then I’ll
return the CD to him to make copies to be shipped out to those that
ordered them. To date I’ve not received the CD, so I don’t know when
that will be available for you. I may need some help identifying some
of the new first time attendees, I’ll let you all know on that when the
time comes.
After the photos, we hurried over to our Dinner Banquet facility to get
the doors opened for the caterer, and for all our guests. The banquet
dinner was fantastic, with so many choices to choose from, and all the
excellent desserts. I know everyone really enjoyed that. I should
also comment on the room decorations. Many hands showed up Friday
afternoon to help decorate this facility, and it looked just great in
all its patriotic splendor. When the caterer and her staff came into
the room they were overwhelmed by the decorations, and said that they
had been in this facility many times but never before was it decorated
so nice. We also received the same comment from our speaker. Thanks
so much to all those that were there Friday to help make this room sooo
beautiful.
After the dinner we had a wonderful speaker, Buck Taylor,
Command Master Chief of the Submarine Squadron at Kings Bay. What a
great speaker, and speech he delivered. He had everyone’s attention
as he spoke about his growing-up in the Navy, the Master Chief that
turned his life around, the young sailor that Master Chief Buck
influenced and changed that young man’s life. He discussed the modern Navy and the differences of today’s Navy as compared to the one most of us remember. He responded to many questions from our membership, and it seemed our group didn’t want this part of the evening to end. I gained many new friends that served aboard T-Fish throughout this reunion, and I gained a new friend in Buck Taylor as a result of our getting to know each other during that evening. I will continue to stay in touch with him in the future and will look forward to seeing him at next year’s WWII Submarine Memorial week.
After this great Dinner Banquet, we all returned to the hotel
Hospitality Room for our fun night. We had loads of Door Prizes that
were raffled off, and I hope most everyone there got at least one gift. We then drew for the 50/50 and I don’t remember who that lucky person was, but I believe they received around $135.00 for their share. Our final drawing was for two pictures (Prints) of the T-Fish painting that our friend painted prior to our 2005 Reunion. One was a large 16 X 20 and the other was a 11 X 17 Picture. Dennis Marvin won the large picture, and the small picture was won by?? Not sure, but I believe it was either Rudy Maki or Bob Dorris.
Sunday November 4, the day everyone dreads to see arrive after having
so much fun with all our old friends and the many new ones we’ve made. As they say all good things have to come to an end. It was difficult for us to see everyone leave, but we look forward to our next meeting whether it be on the 2008 cruise or the 2009 Trumpetfish Reunion in Annapolis. Thanks so much for all those that came to this reunion and we expect to see all of you at one or both of the next events—especially the 09 Reunion.
Some additional comments---
At our last Reunion Planning Meeting, Linn Rogers joined our Lifetime
Members club, and that brought us to 79 Lifetime Members. All new
Lifetime Members receive an engraved glass crystal plaque to display
in their homes. These plaques are not only beautiful, but they have
special meaning to each of us that have them and are showing them off. During the reunion, I’m happy to announce we received six more Lifetime Members, and they are: Ken Cole, Bob Miller, George Patenaude, Jerry Rosenberg, Bill Stocker, and Mike Stoinoff. So we now have 85 Lifetime Members in this elite group, and that is 22% of those listed on my Trumpetfish Crew List. I’m just bubbling over with how this has been received by those 85 shipmates, and of course we still have more space available for more new Lifetime Memberships.
My personal comments about this reunion, and all of you that shared it
with us is that once again I’m overwhelmed by the numbers that were
there, the personal qualities of all of those people there, and the
bonding that took place throughout this fun event. We didn’t only have
large numbers there, we had large numbers of top quality people there. As someone was checking out of the hotel Sunday morning asked me if it would be permissible to bring other family members to future reunions, and I told her of course, we’d love for you to bring other family members. That this is feeling like a family reunion more every year. It is important for your children and grandchildren to witness the joy that you have when you are with your shipmates. My Grandson and his wife have attended the 05 & 07 reunions, and he told us that they would definitely try to be at our next reunion, because they see the joy that it brings to Lucy and I when we get back together with our Trumpetfish friends. It is a special time for Lucy and I, and I feel pretty confident in stating that everyone else that attends these reunions share the very same feelings.
I’m going to put this 07 Reunion Report on our Website. I would like
to get comments from as many of you as possible that attended this
reunion to express your feelings about the reunion, and I’ll add them
to the website. If those that didn’t attend can see your comments, I
believe it will carry more weight than mine because everyone already
knows that I am a very strong supporter of the Trumpetfish Reunions,
and I may be a little biased in my praises for the super times we’ve
had at them. For those that don’t remember, the USS TRUMPETFISH SS425

I will now begin working on the 2008 Cruise and the 2009 Trumpetfish
Reunion, and I will be transmitting updates on each as we progress
along the paths toward each event. You don’t have to be a 2007 Reunion
attendee to go on the cruise with us, because we want as many as
possible to get together so we don’t have to wait another two years to
be with you. More on these later.
Terry
THE FOLLOWING ARE LETTERS THAT I'VE RECEIVED
SINCE THE 2007 REUNION:
I want to thank you for all your dedication to bringing the crew of the
Tfish together. The shipmates are a special group of people. My husband and I have
enjoyed all 4 reunions (Gary White 69-72). It is great to see the
happy faces and hear the fantastic stories, even if some are
embellished a bit. This year I was especially touched by the
camaraderie and laughs. I signed up for all the activities and am very
grateful that I did. Although I did not know it at the time, the
reunion date was perfect (bitter/sweet) timing for us.
On October 13th, Gary performed CPR on a very good friend who suffered
a massive heart attack. This friend was like a brother to Gary and
unfortunately he had to watch him loose his life of only 60 years. The
funeral and a sad weekend followed as we spent it with the widow, who
is like a sister to me. Then came the reunion with laughs, memories
and fun which I believe helped Gary get through this tragedy. So I
also need to thank each and every reunion attendee.
Take care, and God willing we hope to see many of you again.
Marilyn White
Terry and Lucy this reunion was so different than the others and the
tour of the trident subs was very exciting and the speaker at the
banquet Master Chief Taylor was a real eye opener. We could of not
asked for a better location the area was nice. The only thing that
did not change was the great company of all that attended. We cant wait
to get together again.
Joe and Pat Overton
Terry and Lucy,
You and your team do a TREMENDOUS job in planning, and executing a
FANTASTIC reunion. You deserve all of the praise you receive, WE can’t
tell you how much fun we had, and plan on making it to all of them.
Linda and I made it home, to the cool Nebraska climate (38 degrees)
safely. Back up to the mid 50’s this week.
Linda and I have been discussing and talking about the reunion all week.
One of the things that keep coming up is how fast the women created a
bond and friend ship with one another. For the most part they have
only known each other for a few days. They have not had the pleasure of
living together on board the Trumpetfish. I will go through my pictures
and forward you the better ones later. The only improvement I would
suggest is that we make sure the motel has a working swimming pool for
Jim and Fay. Swimming in the lobby fountain doesn’t give the T-fish a
good reputation, HA, HA
Take care and have a Great Thanks Giving.
Linda and Jerry
Terry & Lucy,
Thank you so much for everything you and Lucy did. You guys are too
much and you both deserve what we gave and more. You did a fantastic
job. I (Peanut) love coming to the reunions. I think my favorite
thing this year besides seeing everyone (even if I didn't know them),
was the memorial service. It was fantastic. When I am at a reunion,
if there is anything I can do to help I will. I love helping out. I
am loving my DVD camcorder. Still need to learn how to use it more
though. Thanks again for everything and hope to hear from you soon.
Peanut & Eddie Jewell
Terry And Lucy;;; Let Jane and I put in our thanks...I think the two
of you did a remarkable job against many obstacles...Looking forward
to the next one and A cruise in between if possible...We also like to
sit out on the balcony and sip a glass of wine...
Take care...
Lee and Jane Tucker
Terry & Lucy,
Just want to thank you both for the wonderful reunion. I really had a
good time. It was great seeing our old shipmates. Keep up the good work.I really appreciate all the work you do, and I'm sure everyone else appreciates your hard work also. Thanks again.
Sal Fererra
Hi Terry. Our gift to you and Lucy was just a small thank you for all
you have done to make the Trumpet Fish organization the success it is
today. We wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't all the effort
you guys put in the past few years. Thank you.
The last name of the officer I told you that was at the 2003 reunion
is Scheindback (not sure of the spelling). He was on the boat in the
early 1950.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and a great Christmas Holiday.
Ken Cole
Terry,
It Was Great! I'm going to assist on our next one and I could say more,
but
Thanks Again.
Ed Friend
Dear Terry and Lucy,
Please accept our very sincere thanks for the very wonderful reunion
you both worked so hard to get together. You were very successful

Al and I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity to have met
the both of you.
Very sincerely,
Al & Blanche Anceravage
PS: Attending the WWII Memorial Service was a very enjoyable &
memorable experience.
Dear Terry:
Wonderful news that your event was a success and it was a pleasure to

NAMES IN RED CANCELLED DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES
2005 REUNION REPORT
It took us most of the morning to get things sorted out to set-up
the Ship's Store, registration table, beverages and snacks, and the
door prizes. Some of the attendees started showing up to check-in
that morning, and throughout the rest of the day they just kept
pouring in.
Everyone assembled in our huge hospitality room to greet and visit
with old shipmates and get to know many of the other shipmates that
served aboard T-Fish during other years.
I mentioned the huge hospitality room. Originally, we were to have
another room of 1120 sq. ft., but due to our large turn-out the
hotel wanted us to use the big room which gave us 2520 sq. ft. It
had 10 round tables with 10 chairs around it so everyone had plenty
of room to sit and be comfortable to visit. We had all our banquets
in the same room, so it made everything very convenient. I doubt
that we will ever get a hospitality room of this size for any of our
future reunions.
On the Ship's Store table we had a large variety of T-shirts
(both adult & child's), golf style shirts with embroidered T-Fish
name and dolphins, two styles of Ball Caps, T-Fish embroidered
jacket, Ship's Patches, US Flag lapel pins, and Angel Pins. These
items sold very well throughout the reunion, so we didn't have to
bring to many back home. We will continue to make these items
available through the T-Fish Website, via email, or letters to me.
If I don't have them in stock, I can order them and get them to you
in four to six weeks. I plan to have many more items available in
the future and for our next reunion. (NOTE: THESE ITEMS ARE
AVAILABLE AT THIS WEB SITES SHIP STORE, Check them out).
Wednesday evening we had a nice buffet of fried chicken, potato
salad, chips & dip, veggie trays, cookies, brownies, and a large
bowl of mixed fruit, and a good supply of liquid beverages.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and most spent the rest of the
evening enjoying the fellowship with each other.
Thursday morning the hospitality room was open at 0800 and many
shipmates and wives were enjoying the breakfast bar that was
included every morning for those registered at the hotel. Forty of
us left the hotel at 1000 to car caravan to the old Navy Base where
the CSS Hunley Museum is located. The Hunley was the first
submarine to sink a warship during the Civil War, and it
mysteriously sunk that same night and was lost until searchers found
it in 1995. In August 2000 the Hunley was raised to the surface and
has been at its present location for archaeology studies, and those
studies are nearly finished at this time. Normally, this facility is
only open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, but we received a
personal group tour on this date. This history lesson was very
interesting for all those that saw the Hunley last Thursday. Since
the rest of the day was open, many went on to Charleston to
sight-see and shop. Many of us returned to the hotel to enjoy the
rest of the afternoon.
Thursday evening-everyone came dressed in their Polynesian/Hawaiian
attire to enjoy the Luau Low Country Pig Picking banquet. The hotel
chef carved the baked pig for everyone to enjoy. The dinner was
buffet style with many choices of delicious food to select. After
the tables were cleared, we had the pleasure to be entertained by
Danny Stirling a local entertainer that dresses as Elvis and delivers
an exciting show. He is accompanied on stage by two beautiful
dancers. Danny is a very warm people person who enjoys walking
through the audience and singing to the ladies. What a great show
we all saw, and everyone had a blast with this superb entertainer.
I have a feeling that this will be considered one of the highlights
and most memorable parts of the reunion.
A group of around ten of us guys stayed late, sitting in a circle
telling stories that everyone swears were true, and happened just
like they were told. Some call them sea stories, but whatever you
call them we had a ball staying up until the wee hours of the
morning enjoying each others fellowship.
Friday morning-everyone was up bright and early to enjoy another
fine breakfast and to get ready to go on the Charleston/Citadel
tour. It was a bright sunny autumn day when the bus arrived to be
loaded with a bunch of excited sightseers. I didn't go on this trip,
but had been on it a couple years ago and knew how enjoyable it
was for Lucy and me. The bus left at 1015 and returned at 1700 with
a lot of very happy people. Everyone that I talked to said it was
such an educational experience, and the Citadel Dress Parade was so
impressive. The tour guide makes this trip such a great experience
by explaining so many points of interest as the bus traverses the
streets of Charleston. His knowledge of the History of Charleston
is mind boggling, and he makes the trip so interesting the whole day.
This was another event that those that went will surely remember for
many years with very fond memories.
Those that didn't go on the bus tour were on their own for the day
to sightsee, shop, or visit as they wished. As they all returned to
the hospitality room that night the room was filled with a lot of
happy chatter, and once again another group of us continued the
"Sea Stories" until 0200 the following morning. I wasn't getting
much sleep, but I sure had a lot of laughs and had a ball with these
shipmates.
Saturday morning-still a lot of smiles on everyone's faces this
morning. Just about everyone loaded into cars to travel to Patriot's
Point Naval Museum. Probably everyone went through the USS Clamagore
the T-Fish's sister ship. The USS Yorktown, a destroyer, and Coast
Guard Cutter are also there. A lot of us guys stayed aboard the
Clamagore for a couple hours or more helping explain various things
to tourists, and then several of us stayed topside just talking.
This is a very nice Naval Museum, especially for those of us that
served in the Navy. As on Thursday, many chose to go sightseeing
the rest of the afternoon, and came back to the hotel for
picture-taking by 1600.
Saturday evening-- Wow! Everyone cleaned-up real nice for the
photographs and the Dinner Banquet. The photographer made up a
memory book with all the pictures she and her staff took at the
various functions. This book is outstanding with all the pictures
and the couples named for easy recollection of whos who. We also
had group pictures taken and we received our copies that evening,
and I must say both the shipmates, and the ladies group pictures
sure are nice.
After the picture taking, the hotel Manager unveiled our boat's
picture on which all attendees had signed the matting surrounding
the picture. This picture was one of the Prints from the Painting
my friend Mary Lou Blackwell painted for us. It is a beautiful
picture of the T-Fish underway, and you may view it on our Web Site. I have more of them available for sale for any of you that may wish to purchase one. They have been selling very well.
We then filed into the banquet room for our Dinner Banquet. Once
again we had a lavish buffet filled with many choices of very
delicious food. I'm sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed this fine
dinner.
We then started our Trumpetfish SS425 Veterans Association business
meeting.
The first order of business was the welcome followed by the Pledge
of Allegiance to our country's flag. I went out on a slippery
limb and read a risky story about Petey the Snake. Fortunately,
I made it through this shaky experience without mispronouncing any
of the words. (I was very lucky to get through this).
Then "Profile of a Submariner" by Dr. Joyce Brothers was read, and
a tribute to the POW/MIA's.
Introductions were made and it was an honor for me to introduce Mrs.
Fran Josephson, the widow of one of my T-Fish skippers Capt Carl
Josephson. Her son escorted her and his name is Capt Jed Suddeth. Another honor was introducing one of our past XO's, H.G. (Hoppy) Hohenstein. Absent special guests were: Mary Lou Blackwell-her husband is terminally ill and he had a setback just prior to the reunion, and Mick and Linda Ryan-the webmaster of the previous websight. (His boat became grounded earlier that day, so they couldn't make it in time).
We recognized Ron Melton who designed our Association Logo, and
Wally Krupenevich who made-up our nametags for the reunion. Both of
these shipmates devoted a lot of time for our association.
Election of the Association Officers followed and the following were elected to the board for the next two years:
President- David Hendrix
1st Vice President- Terry Trump
2nd Vice President- Jim Loveday
Secretary- Sal Fererra
Treasurer- Terry Trump
As you can see we didn't get much response from those present to
serve as Officers. We'll work on that at the next reunion. I
failed to mention Saturday evening that I had asked Tommy Martin to
accept an appointment as the Association Chaplain, and he said that
he would be honored to do it. Didn't he do a fantastic job with his
offering the invocation at each evening meal for us? Please let him
know how much you appreciate his God given talents.
I will continue to serve as the Storekeeper and Reunion Coordinator. I was thrilled to receive the following volunteers to serve on the 2007 Reunion Planning Committee:
Jim and Fay Brincefield
Joe Matkovich
Bill Grafton
Linn Rogers
Joe and Pat Overton
Jim and Charlotte Loveday
New By-Laws were written and dispersed to the membership for review,
were voted on, and approved. (See T-FISH VETERANS ASSOCIATION page
to view the By-Laws.) We submitted to the State of South
Carolina for Incorporation of the Association. (I received in the
mail today, approval by SC for Incorporation of our Association).
We will now prepare the necessary forms to submit to the IRS for tax
exemption as a NON-PROFIT organization.
The next topic was to select a location for our next reunion and
whether to have the reunion annually or biennially (every two years). The majority
voted to retain the two year cycle. Choices for the location were
Kings Bay, GA, Central Florida, Branson, MO, St Louis, MO,
Chattanooga, TN, and San Antonio, TX. By vast majority Kings Bay,
GA was selected, and I will try to set it up the first weekend of
November 2007. This is the weekend that the WWII Submarine Memorial
Service is conducted every year to pay tribute to the 52 boats that
were lost in WWII. This will be a great location to continue our
traditional Trumpetfish Reunion.
We then had Good of the Association: Mrs. Josephson gave us some
nice comments. I was very surprised to receive a special gift from
the Association with all attendee's signatures on the beautiful
T-Fish Print. Now I'll search for someone to make a frame for it.
We then honored all the Association Lifetime Members by awarding the
m a very nice crystal engraved certificate. Before the reunion
started we had 23 LM's, but during the reunion we were honored by
having 16 more contribute and join this elite group. I will get
their crystal certificates produced and ship to them. We are
looking for many more of you to join the Lifetime Membership.
I thanked the 2005 Reunion Planning Committee for all the suggestions and help we received from them over the past two years. We met four times and really had productive meetings to make this reunion a very rewarding and enjoyable affair. By way of all the comments that I personally received, I know that you appreciated all the work that went into this event by this committee. Our reward was by having you in attendance and seeing the joy that you had with your shipmates and friends. The 2005 Planning Committee is:
Jim and Charlotte Loveday
John and Mildred Krause
David and Karen Hendrix
Bob Chinn
Terry and Lucy Trump
We then had four raffles:
GENERAL RAFFLE; this was for the many door prizes.
JACKET: The Trumpetfish embroidered jacket was won by Joe Matkovich.
50/50: Fifty percent of the cash went to the Association and fifty
percent ($138) went to the winner Chris Maxwell AN in the US Navy
and grandson of Terry and Lucy Trump. We are really proud of that
boy.
OIL PAINTING-the painting was won by Sal Fererra. (Lucky guy)
The table center pieces were given to the one at the table whose
birthday was closest to that night.
We had two plank owners in attendance; LTJG Frank Maddocks, and
Chuck Breit, and they were presented with very nice Trumpetfish
Medallions. Ron Melton also won a T-Fish Medallion for traveling
the greatest distance to get here.
Sorry for this long dissertation, but I wanted to try to recount
as many events as possible that occurred during those four fun
filled days.
If not before I plan to see each one of you at the 2007 Trumpetfish
Reunion in Kings Bay, GA. Mark your calendars now.
